Power cut after substation fire

Up to 15,000 homes and businesses in southern Edinburgh were left without power for several hours following a fire at an electricity substation.

Five fire appliances attended the George Square Lane substation at about 1630 GMT.

Street lamps and traffic lights were also affected as people struggled home through the rush hour.

Scottish Power said that all homes were reconnected within five hours of power being lost.
