Sorting office damaged by blaze

Royal Mail's sorting office in Stornoway on Lewis has been badly damaged by fire.

Four fire crews - some wearing breathing apparatus - were called to the scene.

The blaze broke out at about 1000 GMT and may have been caused by an electrical fault in the roof.

Smoke could be seen billowing from the roof and a number of windows were broken. Part of Sandwick Road was closed for a time.

No-one was hurt in the incident.

Royal Mail said 17 staff were evacuated and it was assessing what damage may have been done to the post.
