College damaged by arson attack

An arson attack caused "considerable disruption" and damage valued at £200,000 at a college, police said.

Emergency crews attended the fire at the Hereford College of Technology at about 2000 GMT on Sunday.

West Mercia Police, who are appealing for information, said the fire was confined to the motor skills centre.

Emergency crews considered evacuating nearby homes because of the presence of welding gas, but the fire was brought under control and this was unnecessary.

Det Con Gareth Mussell said: "Someone has deliberately caused the fire and as a result has caused considerable disruption to the running of the college."
