Man in hospital after fire rescue

A man has been taken to hospital after a house fire in Kent.

The blaze in the lounge of a property in St George's Place, Hythe, was tackled for nearly an hour by about 20 firefighters on Sunday afternoon.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said the man taken to hospital had been rescued from the house by crews at the scene.

A member of the public who had tried to help him beforehand needed medical treatment after breathing in smoke, a spokeswoman added.
