Crews tackle thatched house blaze

Up to 50 firefighters have been dealing with a major fire at a two-storey thatched cottage in Dorset.

Crews from Hamworthy, Poole, Wimborne, Wareham and Westbourne tackled the blaze at a property in Sandy Lane, Lytchett Matravers, Poole on Friday.

They found the fire had already taken hold in the roof and the first floor.

It took the firefighters four hours to get the flames under control and prevent them from spreading to the ground floor. The cause is not known.

A Dorset Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "Obviously investigations will take place once it is fully under control and cooled sufficiently for inspection."

Two fire engines were still at the scene on Saturday morning.
