Crews tackle 250 bonfire callouts

Fire crews tackled about 250 callouts over Bonfire Night in Grampian - including two lorries set alight and destroyed in Aberdeen.

The majority of incidents involved bonfires out of control, but there were no reports of serious injuries.

However, the two lorries at Lawson Transport, in Howes Drive, Bucksburn, were destroyed at about 2315 GMT.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and took more than an hour to bring the incident under control.

Suspicious fire

Grampian Police, appealing for witnesses, said it was being treated as suspicious, but could not yet say if it was in any way linked to Bonfire Night activities.

Meanwhile, thousands of people flocked to Aberdeen Beach for the formal fireworks display put on by the city council.

Traffic was busy before and after the event with long tailbacks.

However, police said many people had heeded their advice and travelled by foot or public transport.
