Blaze at school is investigated

Fire crews have now left the scene of a blaze which has caused extensive damage to a disused school near Tonypandy, Rhondda.

South Wales Fire Service said an investigation is due to begin on Sunday into the blaze at Cwm Clydach Infants School on Sunnybank, Blaenclydach.

Police have already ruled out fireworks as a possible cause of the blaze.

At one point nine appliances were involved in fighting the blaze, which was reported at 1508 GMT on Saturday.

The first floor and roof of the building suffered heavy damage in the blaze.

Crews from Tonypandy, Porth and Gilfach Goch attended the scene along with three hydraulic platforms from Merthyr Tydfil and Cardiff, and water bowsers.
