Gorse blaze is caused by firework

A stray firework led to a gorse fire in the Jersey parish of St Ouen.

The fire destroyed an area about 147 by 30 feet near the model aircraft strip on Les Landes Common.

Seven firefighters from the Rouge Bouillion Fire Station took less than an hour to put out the flames on Thursday night.

St Ouen honorary police say they will step up their patrols in the next weeks and the fire service has reminded people to use fireworks carefully.

The fire service said they believed the fire was first caused by model aircraft crash but it confirmed to have been the result of a firework.
