Firecrews rescue 17 from building

Seventeen people had to be led to safety when arsonists started a fire in a block of flats in South Yorkshire.

Fire crews were called to the building in the Burley Carr area of Sheffield in the early hours of Thursday.

Crews carried out the rescue after the fire had been started in a stairwell at about 0200 GMT.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the incident was classed as "a deliberate ignition". Police are carrying out inquiries at the scene.
