Founded 6 years ago with Technical Rescue at its core, IETRI recognized early on that emergency rescue dexterity problems are also management problems. In 1999 the Institute therefore established two faculties within its structure: The Technician and Command Faculties. These two now integrate all technician manual dexterity skills into command management and visa versa. This approach harmonised all levels of emergency response from the 'sharp end to the boardroom' and ensures the individual knows how to be most useful as part of a highly efficient rescue mission.

IETRI has created the world's first emergency technical rescue 'Home' for ALL conscientious technical rescue people. With the aid of IT and the internet, and the help of its expert, technical advisory board members, has been changing the paradigm for the emergency technical rescue community ever since.

We have developed a new strategic vision to reflect the increasingly global nature of emergency rescue crises. This vision encompasses three central elements:

the need for Technical Rescue people to stay on top of technology in order to ensure rescue situations are correctly managed increasing our Members knowledge by providing an international perspective of technical rescue best practices preparing individuals and organizations for change in order they can easily cope with environmental transformation such as social demographics, climatic change, etc.
