Fire alarms need a 'backup call'

Suffolk Fire service has changed the way it responds to certain calls.

From May, just one fire engine will be sent to answer each automatic fire alarm which comes in, unless there is also a call to confirm there actually is a fire.

Peter Monk, the county councillor responsible for the fire service, says the new scheme should mean less time is wasted on false alarms.
