Murder inquiry into fatal fire

Police have launched a murder inquiry after the body of a 25-year-old man was found in a flat.

Emergency services were called to a report of a fire at a first floor flat in Burnhouse Street, Maryhill, Glasgow at about 0455 BST on Monday.

Firefighters removed the man from the building but despite efforts to revive him he died at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Frank Thom appealed for witnesses.

He said: "I would appeal to anyone who may have any information on this man's death to come forward.

"I am keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the fire and who may have witnessed anyone acting in a suspicious manner to come forward."
